Dear Student Affairs Colleagues and Friends,

As we make our way toward Fall Break, I wanted to bring a few reminders, invitations, recognitions, and events to your inbox this morning.

Get out and Vote!

Election Day is tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 8. If you haven’t already cast your vote, I encourage you to take advantage of paid time off to do so as needed.

What Now? What Next? The 2022 Midterms and the Future of Democracy

As we all consider the importance and implications of the 2022 election, I would like to make sure that you’re aware of an event that’s taking place today, Nov. 7. from 5 - 6 p.m. – wherein faculty experts and students from across the UC system will discuss how political, economic, and legal dynamics have set the stage for this year's national election. Alfredo Barcenas, Director of Student Governments and Auxiliaries at UC San Diego, will be moderating.

All members of the UC community are invited to register for this free event.

Honoring our Principles of Community

It has been a challenging two-plus years navigating both a global pandemic and the “new normal” together. UC San Diego’s Principles of Community serve as a reminder of the importance and expectation of prioritizing respect, inclusion, civility, and care in our communication and discussions. Please continue to be kind and respectful to each other as we debate ideas, explore various solutions, and consider how to solve problems and meet our shared goals together.

Native American Heritage Month

Throughout November, UC San Diego is hosting a series of events as part of our 16th annual Native American Heritage Month, recognizing the past and present achievements and contributions of Native American people and tribes. I hope you’re able to take part!

Photo Op: National First-Gen Celebration Day

Demonstrate your first-generation pride by joining hundreds of first-gen students, faculty, staff and supporters for a photo session on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. on the Triton Steps. To learn more, visit the National First-Generation Celebration website.

Registration Open: Professional Development Day 2022

Many of our colleagues are unsure about how to navigate the transitions that occur during our professional careers. Duties, personnel, interests and capacities all fluctuate – and it’s normal to question what the next professional move might be and how to get there.

The 2022 Student Affairs Professional Development Day conference aims to offer something for all levels of employees who may be wondering … what’s next?

Visit the Professional Development Day website to learn more about our featured speakers and to register.

Save the Dates

Student Well Fest - Jan. 24-25

Previously known as the Wellness Symposium, the Student Well Fest is a collaborative, engaging festival that will take place on Jan. 24-25 in the Price Center. The Student Well Fest is centered around the eight dimensions of well-being, and will provide students with opportunities to engage with each other, learn wellness skills, and discover resources on campus. Please reach out to cglissmann@ucsd.edu with any questions, or to learn more about program submissions.

Veterans Week Celebrations

In closing, please join me in honoring our Triton veterans and military-affiliated students and colleagues. Our team at the Student Veterans Resource Center would like to invite you to participate in our Veterans Week celebrations – a campus-wide awareness and appreciation campaign to recognize our veterans and celebrate their contributions to our campus and community.

Be Well,

Alysson
