Additional Updates
Three's Company Program
Given current public health conditions, UC San Diego’s Three’s Company program has been reinstated as of February 17, 2021. Three’s Company allows students to socialize in small groups (three or fewer), so long as they are outside, wearing face coverings, and observing physical distancing.
This program does not change the guest policy for campus residents; students are not allowed to have anyone in their apartment/ suite who is not contracted to live in that space, and are not allowed to visit other apartments/ suites. All indoor socializing is considered a violation of campus policy, and is subject to progressive discipline through the student conduct process.
Small group socializing (groups of three students or fewer) may occur in any outdoor space on campus. Students are asked to avoid congregating in areas adjacent to campus dining halls and classrooms, to minimize congestion.
As part of the reinstatement of Three’s Company, outdoor dining on-campus in groups of three (3) or fewer will also be allowed. Physical distancing (minimum of six (6) feet) must be maintained at all times. Please do not move tables and chairs that have been pre-set for your safety.
‘Three's Company’ Dynamics/Rules:
- All students must complete the Student Symptom and Exposure Screening tool prior to gathering, and receive a green thumb
- All members of the group must wear a facial covering at all times
- Physical distancing (minimum of 6 feet) must be maintained at all times
- Groups are limited to three (3) individuals at any one time; dependents accompanied by their student parent are exempt from the count of three
- Groups of four (4) or more students must be avoided and are considered a violation of campus policy
Students are encouraged to keep track of who they are socializing with for contact tracing purposes, should it become necessary. However, this is not required.
The university is currently prohibited from hosting events of any kind, so socializing in small groups may not occur as part of any organized event or program.
Provider-Administered COVID-19 Test Locations
In addition to self-administered tests available on campus (no appointment required), students may schedule an appointment at the following locations throughout San Diego County.
Note that drive-thru appointments are currently in very high demand and may have limited appointments available.

In-Person Events
To reduce opportunities for the spread of COVID-19, all in-person events taking place on campus through May 31, 2021 must be presented in virtual formats, rescheduled for a future date or cancelled. This includes any planned in-person gathering including but not limited to celebrations, dances, lectures, forums, performances, meetings, rallies, social gatherings, concerts, speaker presentations, conferences, contests, competitions or tournaments. In-person events do not include classes and curricular activities.
Are meetings considered events?
Yes.
Can my department or student organization host an event off campus?
No. If your department or student organization is hosting an off-campus, in-person UC San Diego event, this is in violation of this campus policy. You are strongly encouraged to consider the health and safety of our community.
How can I request an exception to the interim events policy?
There are no exemptions to this policy.
Where can I find a calendar of virtual events for students, faculty and staff?
Please see the Virtual Student Union for student remote and virtual programming.
Why can UC San Diego Recreation host an outdoor fitness class, but my student organization can’t hold an outdoor activity?
Recreation outdoor fitness classes are considered curricular, and student organization outdoor activities are not.
What will happen if our group holds an in-person event in violation of the temporary events policy?
Violating campus policy is subject to disciplinary action.
Does the university have any resources that would help departments and student organizations host virtual events?
Yes. The Price Center and the Director of Remote Student Experience are available to provide support. In addition, the Triton CommUnity Initiatives will provide financial support for approved remote and virtual collaborations.
Are protests allowed on campus?
In-person events are canceled for Winter Quarter 2021.
What if conditions improve and county guidelines change?
In-person events are canceled for Winter Quarter 2021.
