California Student Opportunity
and Access Program (Cal-SOAP)

San Diego Cal-SOAP students and staff at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles

Cal-SOAP provides information and encouragement to Southern California elementary and high-school students who might otherwise not consider attending college.

The Cal-SOAP office for San Diego and Imperial Counties is one of 17 Cal-SOAP consortia, each serving a specific geographic area of the state. All work toward a common goal: providing information about postsecondary education and financial aid, and raising the achievement levels of students from:

  • Low-income families
  • Schools or geographic areas with documented low eligibility or college participation rates
  • Families in which they would be the first to attend college

The Cal-SOAP Consortia are comprised of representatives across the state's educational community:

  • University of California (UC)
  • California State University
  • California Community Colleges
  • Independent colleges
  • Public elementary and secondary school districts
  • Local non-profit agencies
