Getting Started

You can customize your assessment project in many ways. Contact the Baseline staff consultant to help you:

  • Design an assessment project with Baseline online resources.
  • Collect data with online surveys or hand-held collection tools.
    • If you use a Web survey, Baseline notifies students and sends them e-mail reminders to complete it.
  • View and analyze data with the Baseline reporting site:
    • Sign in and click Project to see data from your (and other VCSA) assessment projects.
    • View data in chart or graph form.
    • Download data into a Word or Excel file, or create a PDF for easy distribution.
  • Report findings to various audiences and take action.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I request an account?

  • You must be a Student Affairs (SA) staff member to obtain a log-in and to conduct surveys on Baseline.
  • Request for an account online through the Baseline and Compliance Assist Account Request form
    • Please allow for up to a week to process your account. You will receive an email confirmation confirming your account creation.

How do I log in to Baseline?

Sign in on the UCSD Baseline log-in page: https://ucsd.campuslabs.com using your username and password.

Can my graduate assistant create surveys on Baseline?

Yes. If you are a Student Affairs (SA) staff member who would like to request Baseline access for a graduate assistant:

  • Contact Student Affairs Assessment: sa-assessment@ucsd.edu
  • Ask your gradate assistant to fill out the the Baseline and Compliance Assist Account Request form
  • For security purposes, your graduate assistant's Baseline access is limited to your unit/ department. He/she can create and view surveys and rubrics for your unit/ department only.
  • Let us know when your graduate assistant leaves your unit/ department so we can deactivate his/her Baseline log-in.

Can my undergraduate student worker create surveys on Baseline?

No, but your student worker can help you in other ways. If you're a Student Affairs (SA) staff member who would like to request Baseline access for an undergraduate student worker:

  • Contact Student Affairs Assessment:
    • E-mail sa-assessment@ucsd.edu
    • Include your undergraduate student worker's name, UCSD e-mail address, and unit/ department name
  • For security purposes, your undergraduate student worker's Baseline access is limited.
    • Your student worker cannot create new surveys or rubrics.
    • You'll need to intitiate all surveys/ rubrics.
    • When submitting a request, include the following in the notes section: "Chris the Undergraduate Student Worker should be given access to this project and copied on all correspondence." This statement will allow your student worker access to the project.
    • The student worker will be able to preview the survey, submit edits, set up e-mail lists, view results, and export results for this project only.
  • Let us know when your student worker leaves your unit/ department so we can deactivate his/her Baseline log-in.

Can I get a Baseline log-in for a non-Student Affairs partner unit?

No. Although your SA unit may partner with a non-SA unit, we do not provide log-ins for non-VCSA units or members.

We suggest that your unit take on the surveying role using Baseline and share the results with your partner unit.

I'm not part of Student Affairs; can I survey students using Baseline?

No. Our Baseline service contract is limited to Student Affairs staff members. If you are not an SA staff member, you are not eligible for a Baseline log-in.

Units outside of SA interested in a Baseline account can contact Baseline directly at baseline1@campuslabs.com.

I'm in grad school; may I use Baseline to collect data for my thesis/dissertation?

No. Even if you are an SA staff member, our Baseline contract is for Student Affairs projects, and not intended for other purposes. If you have further questions, please contact SA Assessment.

I'm a UCSD Student; can I get Baseline log-in to conduct a survey for a class project?

No. Our Baseline service contract is limited to Student Affairs staff members. If you are not an SA staff member, you are not eligible for a Baseline log-in.
